Spirulina Powder, Organic
A super nutrient rich source of vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, beta carotene, iron, copper, manganese, niacin and potassium. It also has antioxidant properties and has been used across cultures for centuries to provide strength, sustenance, and as a dietary supplement for long journeys and periods of replenishment and convalescence.
1 tbsp of spirulina has 2.3 times more iron than a cup of spinach, is reputed to have 25 times more beta carotene than carrots and contains 60/70% protein so is an ideal source for vegetarians and vegans.
Benefits: It is a source of phytonutrients (plant-based compounds that provide protective health benefits) and as a result can boost immune health and has been shown in studies to decrease the risk of macular degeneration by up to 40%. As a source of omega 3 fatty acids, it can improve brain function and has had positive results in studies related to mental degeneration, anxiety and depression. Omega fatty acids also contribute to healthy bones and joints.
How to use: Spirulina can be used as an addition to most leaf based culinary creations although it should be used in moderation to disguise its strong flavour. It can be added to pesto, green sauces, smoothies, smoothie bowls, and fresh juices.
PLEASE NOTE We believe that such nutrient dense superfoods should be used sporadically and as a form of replenishment, for those lacking in nutrients, following illness or blood loss. Repetitive use of such a high dose of phytonutrients may overload the body's capacity to store such elements and may in turn have adverse dietary effects. It is suggested that those with auto immune deficiency, multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, low blood pressure or anaemia should consult a practitioner before using spirulina regularly.
